nirvana the band the show

nirvana the band the show is my favourite show of all time and one of my favourite things in the whole world.

It basically changed my whole life path and lead me to meet my best friend in the entire world, my dear group of nirvana friends and made me start making zines, got me back into subtitling and made me start a bunch of many other side projects.

I love it very dearly and I'm absolute obssessed with it and its two co-creators, Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol, who are two big influeces in my creative persuits as well.

What is it about?

nirvana the band the show is a reality-bending, rule breaking drama about two obssesive, alienated and delusional best friends who have a band called nirvana the band and are in a endless journey of failure to book a show at a place called the Rivoli.

Matt and Jay walking around town. Matt is looking foward and Jay is smilling, looking at him while holding a large box, their press packgage.

It's a very funny show.

I wrote an introdutory zine about the show, talking about many of its great (and one not so great) aspects, if you wanna know more.

Where to watch it?

There's a bunch of drives, torrents and archives around for the show, but there's a fanmade website where you can conveniently watch the whole thing. Start with the webseries, I subtitled it all myself, then watch the TV series, someone else subtitled it.

Content notes (especially for the webseries) for: edgy humour, slurs, racist, sexist, homophobic, ableist and C/SA jokes, depiction of suicide and gun violence. I believe that's everything.

Jay sitting at the piano saying, “They look a little- you know, I'm not sure if I trust them.”. Close up on Matt's face, he says, “Yeah, exactly, white guys.”.
